Preamble

In keeping with the commitment of IUCr to facilitate the participation by students in its Congresses, the local organizing committee (LOC) of the 24th Congress will make every effort to ensure that there will be a maximum number of student participants.

The term “Students” shall also include post-doctoral fellows and any other scientific workers who do not hold regular, full time employment.

Students will need to furnish a letter from a supervisor or an institution stating that they enjoy student status as defined above. Students will be able to avail of a reduced registration rate.

Support for Indian participants from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India:

The LOC is pleased to record that DST will be generously supporting the participation of Indian scientists and students in the 24th IUCr Congress, noting that this is the first time that an IUCr Congress is being held in India. A large number of students and scientists will be supported with partial assistance. Such assistance may cover partial or full registration and accommodation but amounts for travel may not be provided. All those desirous of availing such bursaries will need to apply to the LOC through the Registration Portal on the Congress website. All the Indian participants are eligible to apply for partial support from DST funds, but preference will be given to those who fulfil maximum number of the following criteria points. Applicants should, however, make all efforts to secure at least a part of the required funding from other sources.

Criteria for disbursal of DST funds:

  • Submission of abstract (poster or oral presentation)
  • Smaller and less well-endowed institutions (eg. state universities, those without independent sources of funding)
  • Publication track record
  • Women scientists, students and young scientists
  • North East regions of India
  • Working in the areas of general interest to the Congress
  • Role of participant in the Congress (speaker, co-chair, poster presenter etc.)
